Importance of Cosmetic Dentistry
What is cosmetic dentistry?
According to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the term refers to creating a positive change to a person's smile and teeth. With a terrific new smile, an individual's confidence involving both in-person and social media interactions will improve. Using new techniques and materials, the health of an individual's back teeth will improve. With cosmetic dentistry, dentists administer life changing treatments that enhance the shape and color of teeth.
What cosmetic dentistry services are provided at Great Lakes Dental?
Cosmetic dentist Ronald Beech, DDS, and his colleagues provide the following cosmetic dentistry services at Great Lakes Dental:
Bonding: This refers to covering the tooth surface with a composite material to repair and change the color or shape of a tooth.
Braces: These are devices used to gradually reposition teeth so they are more favorably aligned. They consist of bands, ceramic appliances and wires. Invisalign is an alternative to braces that uses thin pieces (aligners) of clear plastic to straighten teeth.
Bridges: Also known as fixed partial dentures, bridges are dental appliances fixed to teeth adjacent to a space from which one or more teeth are missing. They fill the space with an artificial tooth or teeth.
Crowns: Sometimes called caps, crowns are dental restorations covering all or most of natural teeth that have been damaged. Made of composite, metal or porcelain, they are cemented on top of the damaged teeth.
Enamel Shaping and Contouring: This is a process that reshapes natural teeth to improve their appearance.
Implants: These are replacements for missing teeth. They consist of three parts: (1) the titanium implant, which serves the same function as the root of a real tooth (2) the abutment, which connects the implant to the crown (3) the crown, which is the visible part of the tooth above the gum line.
Teeth Whitening: This is a process that restores teeth to their natural color.
Veneers: These are thin, custom-made shells of porcelain bonded to the outward-facing sides of natural teeth to improve their appearance.
